The adventure began when we got to Molokai around 5 p.m. We had reserved a "Backpacker's Paradise Cabin" for $35 a night for the first two nights so we could get our bearings before we decided where to camp. Anyway, when we got to the "Backpacker's Paradise Cabin" we found that we had signed up for a night in a.......shipping container with windows! I kid you not. See pics.....
Yeah, so we decided to eat the cost and just camp. We brought our "palace" - our 9 person tent complete with screened in porch and walk-in closet with shelves. Oh yeah! For those of you who don't know, I usually detest camping, but ANYONE can camp in this kind of five star luxury! AWESOME! It was wonderful! We got to the oceanside campground and were STOKED! The weather was perfect, the breeze was just right, Judah loved the tent and went right to sleep. Unfortunately, about 9 p.m. the trade winds started HOWLING. Our tent was fine, but we couldn't sleep because of the noise. So, around 1 am we decided to head back to the shipping container (uggghhhh). We got there and had four hours of sleep (thankfully Judah slept through the entire windstorm, packing up and transfer to container).
Later that afternoon, we attempted to take a nap and were successful for about an hour until we were awakened by a wild, baby pig being chased by a dog underneath our shipping container, which proceeded to simulate an earthquake. The pig was squealing, the dog was barking, the container was shaking and I looked at Jared and said, "Man, you cannot make this stuff UP!" Needless to say, that was when we got the heck out of there. We were rescued by our good friends' connections on island and were "put up" by Kay and Kyle at the Molokai Oceanside Resort which is run by New Hope Christian Fellowship based out of Oahu. Check out our new digs! It's a far cry from the "Backpacker's Paradise Cabin"! Totally Jesus that we got to stay here and meet and hang out with Kyle and Kay and their kids, Daniel and Sarah! I can't believe we didn't get pics of them. Terrible! But here are a few pics of their beautiful property that we were privileged to stay at! Here's our cabin and the property...
We got a chance to see some faces we haven't seen in ten years, and some new faces for me.... Here are some pics of our time at Calvary Chapel Molokai (where Jared was interning when we met)...
And meet up with Junior, Luana and Hoku - an amazing family that Jared knew before, but I got to meet this time around. We got to spend some good times with them and "talk story". They totally made our trip - God is good!
Here are some pics of the island...
The West End of the island
Papohaku Beach (my favorite) - 3 miles of beautiful, deserted beach!
The East End
Halawa Valley
The Lookout and the (yup, you guessed it) Phallic Rock
My two cutie guys!
The Lookout is where you can look down onto Kaulapapa which was a leper colony for many years. It's separated from the rest of the island by the highest sea cliffs in the world! They are over 3000 feet high. My crazy husband took these pics leaning out over that 3000 foot drop. I wasn't with him at the time, or we probably wouldn't have these pictures....incredible!!
And, of course, where it all began - Molokai Baptist Church - where Jared and I first met....
Judah playing in the playground where Jared and I had our first kiss....
Here's to ten incredible, blessed years together! Thank you Jesus!!

Kim, you've really come a long way from your Mary Katherine Gallagher and ANIMAL years. Congrats on the lovely family and LIFE.
Magnificent pictures. What an outstanding vacation for you and your family, Kim. I haven't been out there since the summer of 1973, aboard U.S.S. Bainbridge, but I see it is as beautiful as ever.
